Sony’s WALKMAN app update rolling for Xperia Z1, and more…
We have a new version of Sony’s WALKMAN app rolling*, and as part of our behind the scenes series, we managed to catch up again with Maiko Ishida, Senior Experience Planner for Sony’s WALKMAN app to tell us a little more about it.
Maiko: My developer team and I have been reading social, blog and forums to get your feedback on Sony’s WALKMAN’s app; working away to make the changes and improvements you’ve voiced as important.
So now we are ready to share some of the updates that will be delivered to you from this week! The latest WALKMAN update (version 8.0.A.0.4) brings pretty significant changes – I’ll take you through the highlights now…
We saw many of you finding our “smart” playlist functionality useful, but also suggesting new additions, so we’ve added:
- “Newly added” playlist
- “Most played” playlist
- “Now playing” indicator for songs, albums and playlists
Some of our Music Unlimited* fans asked for the ability to save playlists shared by friends… well, now here you go:
- “Save a friend’s shared playlist function”
We also noticed many, many TrackID™ users were reviewing their search history over and over. Why? Because it represents a list of tracks you really liked when you first heard them on radio, cafe, etc.
This got us thinking; wouldn’t it be sweet if you had your TrackID™ history as a WALKMAN playlist, with automatic track collation, so you could listen whenever you wanted? Now we’ve added it in this release:
- “TrackID™ history playlist**”
That’s all well and good, but say you’re not a Music Unlimited subscriber yet; you might be unsure of your favourite tunes residing in the catalogue (despite the fact it’s over 22 million songs)? No problem. We’ve added a 30-second free preview mode to every track in Music Unlimited’s library.
- “30sec free preview of every track in Music Unlimited’s library”
There’s no limits – we’re also offering free trial periods to listen to full tracks, and to use it on offline environment.
We working continuously on performance enhancements and fixes, with even more updates planned. Some of them take a little time to come together, but we’re confident where we’re going is: the best, most beautiful music player available – something completely unique and recognisably, Sony.
The update rolls globally this week for Xperia Z1, as well as Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z, Xperia ZL and Xperia Tablet Z.
Hope you enjoy this release – let us know, we’re listening
Maiko.

Switch to high-end Walkman full interview with Sony Andrews audio Wengguo Xiong, deputy director
November 12, this year is probably the most cable bandit who rejoice in the day, not only visit the Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai charm tours, live there full Sony product exhibitors. After the conference, Xiao Bian to the second floor Mart participated in a interview on the Sony audio, along with interviews of the object to accept three people, namely Mr. Weng Guoxiong, deputy director of Sony's audio market department, and deputy assistant manager Miss Li Xuan Mr. Tian Zhe. I believe the hearts of many loyal customers have many questions about Sony audio - ZX1 what is not Walkman 35 Anniversary Edition? Sony Xperia phones in the future will not be equipped with S-Master Walkman and other core technologies so on and so, these issues will be answered in the next article.
From left to right Miss Li Xuan , Mr. Weng Guoxiong, Mr. Tian Zhe
ZX1 is indeed the 35th anniversary of the high-end models in the future will be fully turned to Android Walkman
Today varied music player market, many domestic manufacturers such as HiFiman, Rainbow has launched high-end player, pure tone, and is known for the "National bricks." In contrast, Sony, and only as D50, D100 such a music player with a non-professional products to the contest, Walkman in general yet, but the newly released Sony ZX1 may be able to fill this gap.
Sony flagship Walkman ZX1
ZX1 what is not Walkman 35 Anniversary Edition? In its release at the beginning, the emergence of all kinds of speculation, it also reflects the players on the Walkman brand unquenchable enthusiasm, this Sony staff gives an affirmative answer: "Yes, of course it is the 35th anniversary of the product ! February next year and will be in the domestic market. "
Sony admits Walkman products in the past and did not like D50/D100 is so high-quality player, but ZX1 appearance will bring change, that is, the next generation inherits the sound quality of Walkman flagship ZX1 so hard to wait no longer 5 years, Sony's high-end products will accelerate development speed.
Miss Li Xuan is the 35th anniversary of the ZX1 gives an affirmative answer
Why ZX1's body, we have a doubt that such a monumental Walkman player still uses the Android system, Sony decided to implement what intelligent reason? Sony gives a seemingly very important reason, and that is streaming. Listen to music online has become a trend, such as multi-meters music, watercress FM, Sohu video and other online content providers can provide smart Walkman richer resources. If you let the phone to do these, it goes without saying that the sound quality can not be guaranteed to experience poor battery life is also a problem.
These are released at the beginning of the Z1050 has planned it?
In the future be able to use the Walkman download lossless music and even play music is Sony's dream, but also the blueprint, so practiced in the high-end intelligent player is necessary, but also the future development trend Walkman. Sony also said it would not resume A series of research and development programs, and non-Andrews-end products will no longer be offered, this is not good news for music lovers, but we also noted that the Japanese release of the pure tone player M505 series, equipped with S-Master MX technology, Sony confirmed that this aspect will be landing domestic product next year, it seems that Sony is not to give up when pure tone player.
